How to Use Coupon Codes Online (and Make Sure They Actually Work)

Coupon codes are the easiest way to cut the price of an online order, but a surprising number of shoppers miss out because a code is entered in the wrong place, has already expired, or does not apply to the items in the cart. Here is how to get it right every time.

1. Start on the store page

On SaveHub, every store has its own page with all current offers. Real coupon codes are always listed first, followed by deals that need no code — sorted so the biggest savings come first. Start there instead of searching around the web for codes that may be years old.

2. Know the difference between a code and a deal

  • Code: a word or string such as ARW25 that you type into the promo field at checkout.
  • Deal: a discount that is already applied on the store's site — a sale page, free shipping over a minimum, or a bundle price. Just click through and shop.

3. Copy the code, then open the store

Click Get Code and the code is shown and copied for you, while the store opens in a new tab. Add your items to the cart first — many codes only work once the cart meets a minimum or contains eligible products.

4. Find the promo code box

Look for a field called Promo code, Discount code, Coupon or Gift card or discount code. It is usually on the cart page or the last step of checkout. Paste the code and press Apply.

5. Check the total before you pay

A working code changes the order total right away. If nothing happens, check the offer details: is it for new customers only, a specific product, or a minimum spend? Codes are also usually one per order, so pick the one that saves the most.

6. Stack savings the smart way

  • Combine a code with free shipping thresholds when the store allows it.
  • Join a store's newsletter — many brands, like Urban Hydration, give a first-order discount to new subscribers.
  • Shop seasonal sales, when sitewide deals are deepest.

When a code doesn't work

Stores change their promotions often. If a code fails, try the next offer on the store page, and tap the feedback button on the coupon so we can review it. Every report helps us keep SaveHub accurate for the next shopper.
